Psychoeducational Assessments

A comprehensive psychoeducational assessment helps to determine a student’s strengths and weaknesses. With this understanding, we can help to improve academic achievement, work performance, and overall quality of life. Our psychoeducational assessments usually take at least one full day of testing. The duration and frequency of the testing is adjusted to individual needs. The assessment is typically comprised of 4 parts:

1) Psychometric Testing

The student will then be given various tests to assess his/her academic and reasoning skills, intellectual abilities, memory, attention, and executive functions. The testing duration will be adjusted to your child’s individual needs, but will typically last four to six hours.

2) Assessment of Social-Emotional and Behavioural Functioning

This part of the assessment involves gathering collateral and qualitative information that would allow the psychologist to better understand your child. Clinical interviews with parents are conducted and questionnaires are given to the parents, teacher and student to complete.

3) Report and Recommendations

Scored test results, interview insights, and questionnaire information is developed into a comprehensive report for parents. The report will also include recommendations for any necessary school accommodations and at-home support strategies.

4) Feedback Session:

The parents (and student when appropriate) will meet with their assessor to go over the report. At this time, we will discuss any diagnoses, recommendations, and answer any further questions that you may have. Please note that we do not provide feedback sessions for our gifted assessments, only for our comprehensive psychoeducational assessments.
